The Board of Education in the Webster Groves School District selected John Simpson as superintendent, effective July 1, 2016. Simpson had been the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
In a statement, Board Vice President Amy Clendennen said that Simpson is “student-focused, passionate about education and dedicated to the Webster Groves School District. John has played a crucial role in achieving and maintaining our status as a high performing school district and has emerged as a leader in educational innovation.
“While we are a high-performing district, John made it clear through the interview process that he knows our district’s challenges and recognizes that there are areas where we can improve, even though conversations surrounding change and progress can be difficult. John’s experience and strong relationships within the district and community will enable him to challenge us to move forward, while honoring the traditions and practices that have made this district successful.”
Simpson, 43, holds a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Maryville University, education specialist’s and master’s degrees in education administration and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
